The Crossings is a census-designated place (CDP) Miami suburb in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 22,758 at the 2010 census.

Geography

The Crossings is located at (25.669425, -80.401108)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 3.8 square miles (9.8 km2), of which, 3.7 square miles (9.6 km2) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) of it (0.80%) is water.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 23,557 people, 8,264 households, and 6,255 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 6,304.9 people per square mile (2,431.9/km²). There were 8,672 housing units at an average density of 2,321.0/sq mi (895.3/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 85.20% White (34% were Non-Hispanic White,)[6] 4.64% African American, 0.09% Native American, 3.31% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 3.17% from other races, and 3.54% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 56.11% of the population.

There were 8,264 households out of which 40.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.1% were married couples living together, 15.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.3% were non-families. 19.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.85 and the average family size was 3.28.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 25.9% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 32.0% from 25 to 44, 24.6% from 45 to 64, and 8.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 87.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.3 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $55,517, and the median income for a family was $60,263. Males had a median income of $42,360 versus $32,543 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $23,762. About 5.1% of families and 6.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.4% of those under age 18 and 5.3% of those age 65 or over.

As of 2000, speakers of Spanish as a first language accounted for 63.51% of residents, while English made up 31.38%, Portuguese was at 1.65%, French was at 0.91%, Persian at 0.72%, French Creole was the mother tongue of 0.71% of the population.[7]
